About Me

Marcus Ruby is fully licensed by the South Carolina Residential Builders Commission as a residential home inspector (SC-RHI#49773) and he enjoys meeting new clients and helping them learn more about the houses that matter to them.

He earned a bachelor's degree in 1997 and spent 11 years working in the risk management and mitigation field.  Much of this work involved the investigation of builder negligence and material and component failures.  During this time, Marcus learned a great deal about construction and building methods and standards, both residential and commercial.  In 1998, he relocated from the Atlanta area to the Upstate of South Carolina.  In 2000, he bought an old house in Campobello, where he still lives today with his wife and son.  In 2009, after growing weary of the extensive travel required for his job, he changed career paths to spend more time with his family, while also pursuing other ventures.

In 2021, he started House Matters Home Inspections, LLC, because it allowed him to use his building and construction knowledge to help people make more informed choices when buying a home.  Marcus is a member of the Spartanburg Association of Realtors, where he serves on the Community Service Committee.  He's also active as a band booster for Landrum High School (Go Cardinals!).

In his spare time, Marcus likes to fish out of his old jon boat, cook dinner for his lovely wife of 15+ years, and shuttle his son to and from various extra-curricular activities.  He also enjoys watching sports, camping and spending time in his garden.
